How a sweater should fit?
- The hem of the sweater should overlap your waistband (at a minimum) or fall just below it.
- The shoulder seam should sit directly where the top of your shoulder bone ends.
- The sleeves should end at the base of your thumb if worn alone, or a 1/2″ before it if worn with a shirt underneath.
What size sweater should I knit?
Find the size with a finished chest measurement that most closely matches the dimension your beloved sweater, this is the size you will knit. For example, I would usually choose to knit the adult M (37″), because I have a bust of about 38″, and I like to wear my sweaters with a bit of negative ease at the bust.
Should you size up in wool sweaters?

Body. For any sweater, you want to be able to pinch no more than 2 inches of fabric on either side of your lower rib cage. You also don’t want to be able to pinch any less than 1 inch of fabric, as that’s way too tight. You want it to lightly hug your torso, but not be so loose or tight.

Should I size down in oversized?
Buy it in your usual size. The word “oversized” means that the cut is just that, oversized. This is deliberate and meant to fit loosely. If you go down a size, it will still fit but will not have the intended, loose look.

While jeans do stretch, it is not a good idea to buy one size smaller, especially while buying skinny jeans. You may be unable to wear them at all or may feel uncomfortable while wearing them.

When you just don’t know what size to order or if you think you’re in between sizes, it’s always a safe bet to go a size up. It’s much easier to work with a garment that’s slightly bigger than one that’s too small, if you don’t want to return it.
