What fabric is used for cuffs?
Nylon construction. This heavy rib knit fabric is the one you need for all outerwear projects. The quality and construction of this ribbing gives it an incredible memory that does not stretch-out like other ribbing. Use it for cuffs, waistbands and collars.
How do you put a ribbed cuff on?
Do NOT sew over pins.
- Line your cuff and sleeve edges up, and place the needle in the down position close to the first pin.
- Remove the first pin.
- Stretch the ribbing to fit the sleeve to the next pin.
- Sew with your chosen seam allowance (mine is 5/8″) from pin to pin.
What fabric does not stretch?
Woven fabric has the horizontal and vertical threads woven up and down. This fabric does not stretch and needs patterns especially suited to it. A cotton dress or a business shirt is made from woven fabric. Knit fabric has its fibers knitted or looped together causing the fabric to have some elasticity.
